Oracle and Overseas Development
The following comments reflect my own insights and comments. My position at Oracle does not place me in a decision making role, with respect to overseas development.
Oracle has long had a development center in India. Initially, it was principally used for product support, especially for obsolescent products.
During the past couple of years, there has been a trend at Oracle, toward increasingly using the India Development Center to do new development. This shift has been made possible by the advances in the Internet, and global communications.
In my own work, I am often called upon to work closely with workers all over the world. I am regularly in contact with co-workers in England and Ireland, especially. Back when the economy was booming, I was actually sent to England to meet with some folks. But the reality is, I can collaborate perfectly well with overseas workers while sitting in my home office, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
